Our Careteam

Cheryl Vandal
Hospital Manager

Cheryl Vandal spent her summer holidays in the country, watching how her grandfather was able to "talk" to his horses and dogs and get them to do anything he wanted.  It was at that early point in her life when she decided she wanted to be able to be involved with animals as a profession. She attended the University of Guelph and took her degree in Animal Sciences.  Upon completing university, Cheryl went to work at a veterinary hospital in central Ontario and has never looked back.

She has worked in various aspects of the veterinary field for over 25 years.  Cheryl joined the Peterborough West Animal Hospital’s team in the summer of 2013 as the practice manager.  Cheryl says "she is blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients and their furry family members"! She is looking forward to meeting and forming relationships with many more pets and their people at Peterborough West Animal Hospital.

Outside of work she spends her time with her husband working in their gardens. They have three daughters who are all pursuing careers across the western provinces.  (This makes travelling in Canada great as she has a place to stay from here all the way to B.C.) Cheryl has 2 pets - "Monty", a lynx point Ragdoll and "Abby", the crazy, energetic Bernese Mountain Dog.

Ashley Ferren
Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist
Ashley is our full-time Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist at Peterborough West Animal Hospital. Born and raised on her family farm in Cavan, she has always known she wanted to be in the medical field and working with animals. Ashley attended St. Lawrence College in 2006, a 3 year program in Veterinary Technology and Biomedical Research. After graduating in 2009 she quickly wrote her licencing exam and became a Registered Veterinary Technician/Technologist. Since then she has been working in the field with many different types of animals such as snakes, dogs and cats, cattle, and even orangutans at the Toronto Zoo.

Ashley, her husband, and her two daughters currently live just outside of Peterborough.  She is very excited to be working back in her hometown where she loves seeing familiar faces every day.
Caitlin Stephenson
Registered Veterinary Technician
Caitlin is a full-time Veterinary Technician. She grew up in Peterborough, and completed her studies at St. Lawrence College in Kingston in 2013. During her time in Kingston, Caitlin spent her time at the Humane Society, as well as at Queen's University in the Animal Care department. In the past, Caitlin has spent her time volunteering at local vet clinics, as well as an animal shelter in Lakefield.

She has also had the opportunity to learn about exotic animals through a placement at the Peterborough Zoo. She has always loved all animals, so spending her days surrounded by furry friends is a dream come true! Caitlin has two, 4 year old golden retrievers (brother and sister!) named Willow and Cooper. Together with the rest of the family, they enjoy exploring nature through hiking, swimming and camping.

Victoria McEldon
Registered Veterinary Technician
Victoria is one of our Registered Veterinary Technicians at Peterborough West Animal Hospital.  She moved from Scarborough to Millbrook in 2001. Since moving to Peterborough County her family developed their own little patch of heaven into a small hobby farm. Her home is not complete without her 4-legged family of dogs, cats, horses and cattle. Victoria’s goal is to purchase a local farm in the near future to call home. She has a small herd of Simmental cattle that she continues to grow and genetically improve.

Victoria was an active participant in 4H growing up, competing at both local and national level competitions. Once she graduated from 4-H she became a local 4-H volunteer and active agricultural member in the community. She loves to share her knowledge of and promote the agriculture industry within the community.  Victoria’s special interest in animal husbandry and medicine was influenced greatly by her experiences in 4-H, part-time jobs at local veterinary clinics and her exposure to the agricultural industry in general. She became a licensed RVT in 2016 after graduating from the Veterinary Technology program at the University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus. Since graduating, she has worked in both small and large animal veterinary fields. Victoria is excited to become a member of the Peterborough West Animal Hospital where she can further develop her skills and knowledge within the veterinary field.
Mandy Weatherbee
Veterinary Assistant
Mandy is our awesome Client Relations/Veterinary Assistant.  She is that cheery, caring, compassionate person you will speak with on the phone, and the main person greeting you when you come into the hospital.  Mandy obtained her Veterinary Assistant diploma at Durham College, and she comes to us with experience in emergency veterinary medicine.   (She continues to work some weekends at the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic here in Peterborough.)

Mandy’s passion is helping pets and their people.  She says she has found her niche at Peterborough West Animal Hospital as she has been able to connect with so many great clients and their furry friends.  Mandy says she looks forward to coming to work every day for this reason (and because she also loves the people she works with).  Mandy wants everyone to know that if you have any questions no matter how trivial you think they may be, be sure to call us - you are not an interruption in her day, but the reason for her day!

Although Mandy is a very busy person, she always finds time to spend with her own pets, ‘Zeus’ her very large Rottweiler /American Bulldog cross and her two cats, ‘Kiki’ and ‘Autumn’ (both rescues).
