Cheryl Vandal

Hospital Manager

Cheryl Vandal spent her summer holidays in the country, watching how her grandfather was able to “talk” to his horses and dogs and get them to do anything he wanted.  It was at that early point in her life when she decided she wanted to be able to be involved with animals as a profession. She attended the University of Guelph and took her degree in Animal Sciences.  Upon completing university, Cheryl went to work at a veterinary hospital in central Ontario and has never looked back.  She has worked in various aspects of the veterinary field for over 25 years.  Cheryl joined the Peterborough West Animal Hospital’s team in the summer of 2013 as the practice manager.  Cheryl says “she is blessed to have the opportunity to work with so many wonderful clients and their furry family members”! She is looking forward to meeting and forming relationships with many more pets and their people at Peterborough West Animal Hospital. Outside of work she spends her time with her husband working in their gardens. They have three daughters who are all pursuing careers across the western provinces.  (This makes travelling in Canada great as she has a place to stay from here all the way to B.C.) Cheryl has 2 pets – “Monty”, a lynx point Ragdoll and “Abby”, the crazy, energetic Bernese Mountain Dog.

Mandy Weatherbee

Veterinary Assistant

Mandy is our awesome Client Relations/Veterinary Assistant.  She is that cheery, caring, compassionate person you will speak with on the phone, and the main person greeting you when you come into the hospital.  Mandy obtained her Veterinary Assistant diploma at Durham College, and she comes to us with experience in emergency veterinary medicine.   (She continues to work some weekends at the Kawartha Veterinary Emergency Clinic here in Peterborough.)

Mandy’s passion is helping pets and their people.  She says she has found her niche at Peterborough West Animal Hospital as she has been able to connect with so many great clients and their furry friends.  Mandy says she looks forward to coming to work every day for this reason (and because she also loves the people she works with).  Mandy wants everyone to know that if you have any questions no matter how trivial you think they may be, be sure to call us – you are not an interruption in her day, but the reason for her day!

Although Mandy is a very busy person, she always finds time to spend with her own pets, ‘Zeus’ her very large Rottweiler /American Bulldog cross and her two cats, ‘Kiki’ and ‘Autumn’ (both rescues).

Jennifer Bellissimo

Part-Time Receptionist

Jennifer is a part-time receptionist at Peterborough West Animal Hospital. Originally from Mississauga, Ontario, she moved to Peterborough four years ago with her fiancée, where they recently purchased a home. For as long as she can remember, Jennifer has had a connection with animals and has felt compassionate toward them. In high school, she wanted to become a veterinarian but lacked focus and the academic ability to pursue the profession. She attended the University of Guelph as a mature student and completed a B.A., after which she worked in various sales positions for several years before returning to her original career path. When she moved to Peterborough, Jennifer did some volunteer work at a local animal shelter as well as an animal hospital. It was at the animal hospital, about two years ago, that Jennifer decided to pursue becoming a veterinary technician.

At Peterborough West Animal Hospital, not only does Jennifer get to meet all of our patients in the reception area, but she also has the opportunity to meet and get to know some pretty amazing pet owners! She especially loves getting to cuddle, pet, and snuggle with puppies, dogs, kittens, and cats, and laugh and story-tell with clients. Jennifer’s fiancée Colin, and their 3 cats, C.J, Shadow and Scooter, keep her busy and happy. Aside from animal care, Jennifer also has a passion for landscaping, travelling, and outside adventures. She especially enjoys spending time with her fiancée and best friend.

Jenn Adlam

Part-Time Receptionist

Jenn is a part-time receptionist at Peterborough West Animal Hospital, where she works on Saturday mornings. Jenn has lived just outside of Peterborough all her life. She is a true country girl at heart. She has a younger brother and sister and a very cute nephew, whom she loves to spoil!  She also enjoys hanging around with her beloved grandmother, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday. After over 7 years of working in veterinary clinics, Jenn decided to go back to school.  She recently graduated in 2011 from Fleming College as a Physiotherapist Assistant.

During the week, Jenn works full time at a Nursing Home in Port Hope, where she keeps 60 residents in tip-top shape. She currently has 6 cats that live with her: Brysen, her urinary cat; Ophi, her intestinal cancer cat; Mylo, her respiratory cat; Thomas, her neurological cat; and Mamma and Gus. All of her cats were rescued from various locations, including a culvert. Jenn really likes to keep the veterinarians on their toes with her constant feline medical issues. In the fall, Jenn and her family said good-bye to their family dog of just over 15 years, Molly. Jenn is currently in the process of looking into a Border Terrier puppy to stir things up in her life.
